Simply press down on the metal collar at the top of the handle to unlock the shaft. You can then pull it out or push it in to your desired length. Release the collar to lock it securely in place.
The rotating ring on the handle has three positions: one for clockwise turning (tightening). one for counter-clockwise turning (loosening). and a center position that locks the shaft like a standard screwdriver.
